Terms of Service
Effective 16 October 2026 · Version 1.1
1. What Jiro is
Jiro is a technology platform. It connects people who need a ride, a delivery or a shuttle seat with independent drivers and transport operators (“carriers”) in the areas where Jiro operates. Drivers and carriers are independent: they are not employees or agents of Jiro, and they provide the transport service to you directly. Jiro provides the apps, matching, payment tools, verification and support around that service.
Jiro operates only in the service areas shown in the app, and some features (for example courier or shuttle) may be available only in some areas.
2. Accounts
- You must be 18 or older to open an account (drivers: see section 9).
- Your account is tied to your mobile number. You sign in with a one-time code sent by WhatsApp, SMS or email. Keep your phone and codes to yourself — you are responsible for what happens on your account.
- Give accurate information and keep it up to date. One person, one account; do not share or sell accounts.
- You can ask to close your account at any time from Account → Support in the app.
3. Riders
- You request a ride by setting a pickup and destination and either naming your price (drivers may accept or counter-offer, and you choose) or using Instant match at the fixed price shown.
- Ride options you add (for example air-conditioning or a child seat) are added to the price shown before you confirm. Drivers see them before accepting and should only take the trip if they can provide them.
- Be at the pickup point on time, treat the driver and vehicle with respect, wear a seat belt, and follow the law. You are responsible for damage or soiling you cause.
- A child may travel only with a responsible adult; you must provide a suitable child seat unless you booked one as a ride option and the driver confirmed it.
4. Fares and payment
- The fare is the price agreed in the app before the trip starts (your offer, the driver's counter-offer you accepted, or the Instant match / fixed price), plus any ride options. Tolls, if any, are passed through at cost.
- Unless the app says a trip is prepaid, you pay the driver directly (cash or transfer) at the end of the trip. Drivers must not ask for more than the agreed fare.
- Prepaid items — scheduled rides, shuttle seats and wallet top-ups — are paid by card or bank through our payment providers (Flutterwave or Paystack). Provider fees shown at checkout are added to the amount.
- Jiro earns a commission from drivers of between 6% and 10% of each completed fare, falling with the driver's recent trips and rating, and a fixed commission agreed with each carrier for shuttle seats. Riders do not pay Jiro a separate booking fee unless the app shows one before you confirm.
- Receipts are available in the app under Your trips.
5. Cancellations
- You can cancel a request freely while it is still searching for a driver.
- Once a driver has accepted, cancelling asks you for a reason. Frequent late cancellations or no-shows may lead us to limit your use of Instant match or other features, or to charge a cancellation fee shown in the app before it applies.
- Drivers who cancel accepted trips without good reason, or do not turn up, may have their account reviewed.
6. Scheduled rides
- Scheduled rides are booked in advance (currently from 30 minutes up to 7 days ahead) at a fixed price and are paid when you book. An unpaid booking lapses after a short time.
- Cancelling: full refund to your Jiro wallet if you cancel at least 60 minutes before pickup. If you cancel later than that and a driver has already claimed the ride, 30% of the fare goes to that driver and the rest is refunded to your wallet.
- If no driver takes the ride, or the driver fails to arrive, you are refunded in full.
7. Courier deliveries
- You may send or receive a package by car or motorcycle courier. You must describe the package honestly and give correct names and phone numbers for the sender and recipient.
- The recipient (or, for a pickup you receive, you) is given a delivery code; the courier completes the delivery only with that code.
- Prohibited items include: anything illegal; weapons, ammunition and explosives; drugs and controlled substances; flammable, toxic or hazardous materials; cash, jewellery and other valuables of high value; live animals; human remains; perishable goods not properly packed; and anything too large, heavy or dangerous for the vehicle class chosen. Couriers may refuse or return a package that appears prohibited or unsafe.
- Pack items securely. Jiro and the courier are not responsible for loss or damage caused by poor packing, a false description, or prohibited contents.
8. Jiro Shuttle
- Shuttle seats on fixed routes are sold for carriers and are always paid online when you book. Your seat is confirmed by a boarding pass in the app, which the carrier's driver scans.
- Be at the stop before boarding closes. If you miss the shuttle, the seat is forfeited and not refunded. You may move a booking once, free of charge, to a later departure of the same line within the period shown in the app.
- If the carrier cancels a departure, you are refunded in full or offered another departure.
- The carrier operates the vehicle and is responsible for the journey; its own conditions of carriage may also apply.
9. Drivers
- To drive with Jiro you must be at least 21, hold a valid Nigerian driver's licence for your vehicle class, pass our identity checks (including NIN verification and a face match), provide the documents we ask for, and pass an in-person driver and vehicle inspection at a Jiro Experience Centre. Your vehicle must be roadworthy, insured and properly licensed, and you must keep all of this current.
- You are an independent contractor. You decide when you go online and which requests to accept, and you are responsible for your own taxes, licences, insurance, fuel and vehicle costs.
- Before going online you confirm what your vehicle offers that day (for example air-conditioning), and which kinds of work you take (rides, deliveries or both). Motorcycles carry deliveries only, never passengers.
- Commission: Jiro keeps 6%–10% of each completed fare, set per trip at completion and shown on your receipt. It is collected from your Jiro driver wallet. You may keep working while you owe up to the credit limit shown in the app; above it you must top up before going online or bidding.
- Do not demand more than the agreed fare, refuse riders because of their destination within the service area, let anyone else use your account, or carry passengers not on the trip.
- The driver terms you accept in the Jiro Driver app form part of these terms.
10. Carriers (Jiro Shuttle operators)
- Carriers must be approved by Jiro after an inspection of their fleet, and must keep their vehicles, licences and insurance valid.
- Every departure must have an assigned driver, and every carrier driver must be identified (NIN, driver's licence and a live selfie matched automatically) before they can be assigned or open boarding.
- Jiro collects seat payments and passes them to the carrier after deducting the fixed commission agreed with that carrier.
- Carriers are responsible for running the published departures safely and on time, and for their staff's conduct.
11. Safety
- Check the car, plate and driver photo before you get in. Give the driver your trip PIN only once you are in the right car — the trip cannot start without it.
- Use SOS in the app in an emergency; it alerts your emergency contacts and our operations team and lets you call 112. Jiro's operations team is not an emergency service — always contact the police or emergency services when in danger.
- You can share a “follow my trip” link with people you trust.
- Report any safety concern through Support. We may suspend accounts while we look into a serious report.
12. Conduct
When using Jiro you must not: break the law; harass, threaten, discriminate against or harm anyone; carry or request carriage of illegal items; use drugs or be drunk while driving; give false information or impersonate anyone; misuse promotions, ratings, payments or referrals; interfere with, copy, scrape or reverse-engineer the Services; or use the Services to contact people for purposes other than the trip.
13. Ratings and reviews
Riders and drivers can rate each other after a trip and may change their rating within 60 minutes of completion. Ratings must be honest and relevant to the trip. Ratings affect a driver's commission tier and may lead to account review; we may remove ratings that are abusive or fraudulent.
14. Our apps and content
The Services, the Jiro name, logo and designs belong to JIRO LTD or its licensors. We give you a personal, non-transferable right to use the apps for their intended purpose while you have an account. Maps and place data include material from OpenStreetMap contributors and other providers, used under their licences. Anything you submit (for example place suggestions or photos for support) may be used by us to run and improve the Services.
15. Liability
- The transport service is provided by the driver or carrier, who is responsible for it. Jiro is responsible for providing the platform with reasonable care and skill.
- The Services are provided “as available”. We work to keep them running but do not promise that they will be uninterrupted or error-free, that a driver will always be available, or that maps, routes and times are always exact.
- To the extent the law allows, Jiro is not liable for indirect or consequential loss (such as lost profit or missed appointments), and our total liability to you for any claim relating to a trip or order is limited to the amount paid for that trip or order.
- Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or any other liability that Nigerian law, including the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act, does not allow us to limit.
16. Suspension and closing accounts
We may suspend or close an account, or restrict features, if we reasonably believe these terms have been broken, for safety or fraud reasons, if documents lapse, or if the law requires it. Where it is safe and lawful to do so we will tell you why and let you respond. You can stop using Jiro and ask us to close your account at any time; amounts owed to or by you will still be settled.
17. Disputes and governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. If you have a complaint, contact Support first — most issues are resolved there. If a dispute is not resolved within 30 days, either side may refer it to mediation in Abuja; if mediation fails, the courts of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja have jurisdiction. This does not affect your right to approach the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission or other regulators.
18. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the Services change. We will post the new version here with a new effective date and, if the changes are significant, tell you in the app before they take effect. Continuing to use Jiro after that means you accept the updated terms.
